Rain
Rain -- is coming. Up to half a foot, maybe even more is expected from Boone, NC, south into the NAGA mountains. Above is the GFS forecast model predicted rainfall -- over a six hour time period, with 1-1.5" common over a the southern Appalachians from Roanoke southward.
I guess it depends on who you ask, because the HPC is saying most of the rain stays in the deep south.
What is causing all this? Three things.
A) Tropical storm Ida
B) A cold front is drawing that moisture up into our area, combined with winds coming from the East to only enhance the rainfall
C) A long wave trough entering the area, only enhancing rainfall, and slowing down the exit of the rain. INstead of it just up and riding out, a new low pressure will form off the Hateras Coast throwing moisture back in all the way til thursday.

Foggy
The scum walks a prior viewer. That's what the weather is like outside. Winds have turned from the east, drawing in moisture off of the Atlantic Ocean, banking it up against the Blue Ridge. Thus, we have a foggy, cool, October Day.

My Hokies
Flopped again last Saturday Night. It seems that always in games away from home, big season defining games, program defining games, games that get them over the hump, they fall.
2009: Alabama, and GT
2008: So many I can't even count
2007: A thrashing at the hands of LSU, and a epic failure at home vs. Boston College
2006: We lost to BC at BC, and GT at home
2005: Miami at home.
The list goes on and on, for years Tech has been around the top 5, but never been able to compete there consistently. Is it the skill level of the players? Possibly but no, I'll explain.
If it's not the players, that leaves on thing.. I'll explain.
First let me explain why it's not the players. We have several good WR's in the NFL.
Jake Grove
Michael Vick
Aaron Rouse
Deanjelo Hall
Kevin Jones
Darryl Tap
James Anderson
David Clowney
Shane Graham
Andre Davis
Ernest Wilford
Jeff King
Edie Royal
Brandon Flowers
Everyone of these guys has had a succesful pro football life. The skill level is obviously there. Eddie Royal? Deanjelo Hall? Jeff King? These guys are all STARS. There is no lack of talent at Tech.
That leaves one thing. Coaching. Tech always plays it's best, when no one hyeps them up. Example. Miamie this year. Whenever they start to recieve an ounce of praise, they flop. Example, GT this year.
Let's start at the top and work down --
Frank Beamer -- turned something into nothing. Made Tech an annual premier power in College Football but has never won a big one. He is a master at winning, and winning consistently. But he has yet to figure out how to properly prepare his teams for the BIGGEST of games. This is his only weak spot.
Bud Foster -- Probably the most brilliant mind in College Football, just got showed why I said probably at the begining of that sentence. Paul Johnson was smarter Saturday Night. After YEEAARSS of doing everything perfect, always having his defense ready to go, always bringing the same intensity year in and year out, the past two years it's began to fall off, and you really saw that Saturday Night. For the first time in his carreer, he can't blame anyone else ( not that he would, he always takes responsibillity often for things that aren't his fault). Now this is in no way a slam on BF. He is the best coach in all of football. He will learn from this, just like Tyrod built off of his Nebraska game, and our defenses won't fail again for a long, long time.
Brian Stinespring -- often known as BS. Where do I start with this man. How many recruting classes in the top 25 over the past say, 9 years? How many WR's in the NFL playing significant roles -- it doesn't add up. Something isn't right here. He doesnt have a sense for scheme, or game plan. It's almost as if he sees the plays in the playbook, like they are on the playstation. He doesn't plan around the other's defense. Now, I will admit the offense is better, but it still seems predictable. OFten when we run a Play Action pass, TT throws deep -- and sometimes completes. Credit this to our WR's and TT. Ryan Williams is making Stinesrping look like a genius this year. More power to him. The point I"m trying to make is, Stinespring has to get that sense of adjustment. He needs to learn how to bet undersatnd a defense, and attack their weaknesses, instead of just utilyzing our strengths. Because this year, our offesne doesn't have a weak link. If we would learn how to attack on offense, instead of taking what the defense gives, we'd be alot better.
Personally I'd like to see TT throw 25 times a game, and give Williams 25 touches. Balance it out. Get Dyrell invloved more, on things other than Jet Sweeps. Don't just throw do Danny Coale when he's fifty yardrs down the field. As my baseball coach would say, don't just throw do Greg Boone when The "oh shit" i need five quick yards button for a first down light comes on.
He's gotta understand this, and understand that the best defense is a good offense.
A good offense isn't predictable.
Fix that, you fix the Hokies. Until then, it will happen every single year.

College Football top 10
1) Alabama - Look better than some NFL teams
2) Florida - that run game is so hard to stop
3) Virginia Tech - Jumps texas, almost beat Alabama, the only team that comes close, has several wins over very good teams.
4) Texas - they got the names, Oklahoma comes to town this weekend, and all of a sudden Oklahoma will be getting praise again
5) Oregon - Killing everyone.
6) Miami - see key losses. ( Virginia Tech) Had the toughest schedule in America and rolled through it minus that slip up.
7) Nebraska - see Miami
8) Iowa - nitty gritty good ol' Midwest football
9) Ohio State - not national championship calliber, would like to see them and Oregon in the rose bowl, that would be entertaining.
10) Notre Dame - yes, I know, they will be top 5 if they beat USC next week. Clausen is a baller.

After
Watching Virginia Tech the past few weeks, they are a legit top 5 team. Let's see how they handle themselves next week at Georgia Tech. They win, they are for real, legit national championship contenders with the toughest games out of the way. They lose, well let's not talk about that right now. haha.

Winter
Is making it's presence felt in the Northern Plains. After being hammered with snow early this week, Montana is bracing for overnight lows in the single digits!. ( This is outside of the mountains). Snow will wall as far south as Central Nebraska on Saturday, streaking throuh South Dakota into Minnesota with a seperate Snowstorm Monday. What is interesting about these snows -- they are ARTIC fronts. Meaning, all of the moisture, is coming from the Artic circle. Something very rarely seen in the lower 48 until November. ( Most snows in the lower 48 involove moisture from the Pacific, Gulf, Atlantic Oceans, or Great Lakes). This snow, will be of artic origins. It is snowing right now IN KANSAS!. It's only the first week of October! Attached is the likely hood of seeing a 4" + snowfall. Notice only the far corner of Nebraska is in the green ( if your in this at 3 days before the storm, it's a good bet someone will see 6"). Almost half the state is in the blue, so almost all of these places will see a couple of inches. The map is provided by the HPC, a service of the National Weather Service.
Believe ( more musings)
Tonight, I lie awake, thinkin' bout all those nights,
we would lay and share, til 3am,
with the sound of your voice on the other end.
Tonight, I lie in sleep, dreamin bout all those nights
I would lie awake til 3 am,
and the smile on your face on the other end..
Were those times, were they even there.
all those times, you seemed like you cared..
all of those words, so amazingly shared
but now..
I say wow..
cuz I know you were there ever word...
all those smiles, yea they occured....
I believe,
so don't be naive..
Tonight, I sit here reading a letter,
you wrote me, a couple months back...
remember thinking, things could have never been any better..
all for what is becoming, jack.........
You were there, ever sentence you wrote...
everything you said, everything you did...
every word you spoke....
so don't be afraid, don't kid...
believe, quit being naive...
I remebember all these moments..
I could never forget.....
I won't forget....
I still believe, so please, don't be naive..
believe...

Musings.
I come before you, I don't really know where to start...
for if I start, I fear it will just keep tearing me appart...
sometimes we say things, that aren't very smart,
moreoften however, those things come from the deepest reaches of the heart..
when we say what we mean, we mean what we say..
often though, we don't think about what will turn out that way..
we'll either grow closer, or grow further away...
I hope it's the first, better yet, I pray...
that in the end, everything will be okay..
My mind is stuck, in a gear that won't turn....
because right now, in my heart I yurn...
not for the phone call...for nothing very stern...
all I ask is that in the end, I don't have a letter to burn..
It's almost as confusing as an October Snow..
The difference is,. I'm oh so low....
this process is in a phase so slow.
Can you hear me, can you feel me, oh?
As the colors come, and the green fades into the ground...
I wonder to myself, will you ever come around..
will the green come back, will there be a sound...
or will what we had be forever drowned??
for if I start, I fear it will just keep tearing me appart...
sometimes we say things, that aren't very smart,

My College Football top 15
1) Alabama - They have dominated in every aspect of the game, in every game.
2) Florida - They look kind of one dimmensional, even with Tebow, but hey, they are Florida.
3) Texas - Where is the Defense?
4) Virginia Tech - Faced a very tough first four, took the #1 team in the land to the wire. Whooped a top 10 Miami team, and found a way to win against a very tough Nebraska team. If they take care of business down the stretch, a re-match with the SEC could be possible.
5) LSU - yea, they are undefeated, but where is the convincing win? Beat Florida this week your #1.
6) Miami - Okalhoma anyone? How bout FSU? How bout GA Tech? No match for the 'Canes. I see them winning out, and if Tech falls, winning the ACC. Could play for it all barring some help from the previous 5.
7) USC - they finally showed up when it counted. If this team plays for it all, they will lose. They should win the Rose bowl, though. over
8) Ohio State - Good , but not Great team. They are a year away from going undefeated and playing in the NC game again
9) Iowa - undefeated. Beat PSU. Good team.
10) Nebraska. Took Tech to the wire. Win that they are easily top 5.
11) Cincinatti - haven't lost. Tough test this weekend in South Florida. The Big East is wide open, but right now it's the Bearcat's to lose.
12) TCU - ahead of Boise State. Why? They play a tougher schedule
13) Boise State - won't get no higher than this.
14) Oregon - yea they lost to BSU. BUT, look how they are playing now. The Pac 1o is there's to win.
15) Stanford- and it's Stanford's to lose. An 8-4 season is considered a major success.
2) Florida - They look kind of one dimmensional, even with Tebow, but hey, they are Florida.
